Andhra Pradesh Seeks ₹257 Crore Boost for AYUSH Sector

Amidst the growing recognition of traditional medicine, Andhra Pradesh has taken a significant step forward by seeking ₹257 crore from the central government. This proposal, announced by Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav, aims to fortify the state's AYUSH healthcare infrastructure and services. The request forms part of the National AYUSH Mission for the fiscal year 2026-27, reflecting the state's commitment to embracing holistic healthcare.

The AYUSH sector, an acronym for Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy, has witnessed a surge in popularity and investment in recent years. The Union Budget allocation for AYUSH has seen a substantial increase, with a 20.1% rise to ₹4,408.93 crore. This boost reflects a broader national strategy to integrate traditional medicine systems into the mainstream healthcare framework.

Strategic Integration and Modernisation

The budget for the National AYUSH Mission has been augmented by 66% to ₹1,300 crore. These funds are earmarked for modernising local AYUSH hospitals, upgrading existing centres, and introducing AYUSH clinics within modern hospitals. The integration of artificial intelligence under the AYUSH Grid initiative further exemplifies efforts to modernise and streamline services.

Health Minister Yadav's announcement comes amidst a backdrop of increased collaboration between AYUSH and premier national and international institutions. These partnerships aim to foster innovative healthcare solutions and elevate the sector's global standing. The enhancement of AYUSH infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh is anticipated to not only improve healthcare access but also bolster preventive health strategies.

A Growing Sector

While the AYUSH sector in India is seeing significant governmental support, it is the states' responsibility to implement these initiatives effectively. Andhra Pradesh's proposal to the Centre is a testament to its proactive approach in strengthening healthcare delivery. As the world increasingly turns towards alternative medicine for holistic health solutions, the timely enhancement of AYUSH infrastructure could position the state as a leader in integrated healthcare.
