In the bustling halls of Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, a momentous gathering of BRICS nations unfolded, where a shared vision of environmental protection took centre stage. The 12th BRICS Environment Ministers’ Meeting, under India's Chairship, concluded with a resounding commitment to sustainable development, reiterating the bloc's resolve to address the pressing climate challenges.
Emphasising the need for robust international cooperation, the ministers highlighted the indispensable role of financial support from developed countries. Such assistance is deemed crucial for developing nations to effectively tackle environmental issues while maintaining their developmental trajectories. The meeting underscored that without such global financial mechanisms, the road to sustainable development remains fraught with obstacles.
India's Leadership and Strategic Discussions
Since assuming the BRICS Chairship, India has been at the helm of extensive deliberations, orchestrating an impressive array of 21 virtual thematic meetings, 10 bilateral consultations, and two technical webinars.
