Delhi's Battle Against Pollution: Sirsa's Strategic Measures
In a city where the sky often wears a pall of grey and the air carries an acrid bite, Delhi's Environment Minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, has taken centre stage with a bold plan to tackle the capital's chronic air pollution. Sirsa, whose tenure has been marked by a candid acknowledgment of the city's environmental challenges, this week laid out a series of initiatives aimed at curbing the pervasive smog that frequently chokes Delhi's residents.
Speaking at a press conference, Sirsa expressed regret over the persistent air quality woes, stating, "It is impossible for any elected government to reduce the Air Quality Index in nine to ten months." Yet, undeterred, he presented a strategy that combines vigilance with enforcement.
Targeting Industrial Culprits
One of the pivotal components of Sirsa's plan involves a crackdown on non-conforming industrial areas. He has directed the MCD Divisional Commissioner to conduct detailed surveys of these zones, identifying units that flout environmental regulations. Construction sites, often a significant source of dust pollution, will also come under scrutiny, with strict penalties proposed for those violating norms.
Addressing Traffic Congestion
Traffic congestion, a perennial problem in Delhi, is another focus of Sirsa's efforts. The minister has called for a multi-pronged approach to reduce vehicular emissions, including promoting public transport and encouraging the use of electric vehicles. The city's roads, notorious for their logjams, contribute significantly to the pollution woes, and Sirsa's measures aim to alleviate this burden.
While the road ahead is fraught with challenges, Sirsa remains committed to the cause. "We are taking every possible step to ensure cleaner air for our citizens," he asserted, underscoring the government's resolve to transform Delhi's environmental landscape.
