Enthusiasm Soars at GVMC's Grand Summer Sports Camp Launch
In a vibrant display of youthful exuberance, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has launched its much-anticipated summer sports camps. The Swarnabharati Indoor Stadium buzzed with excitement as the programme officially kicked off, marking the beginning of a sporting extravaganza aimed at nurturing young talents across the city.
The camps, open to boys and girls aged 8 to 16, promise an impressive array of 41 sports disciplines ranging from athletics to archery. With 486 centres set up across Visakhapatnam, the initiative is one of the largest of its kind, ensuring accessibility to children from all corners of the city.
Building a Sporting Culture
GVMC Commissioner Shri Ketan Garg, IAS, emphasised the importance of sport in children's holistic development. 'These camps are not just about sports; they are about building a foundation for healthy lifestyles and teamwork,' he stated, adding that the camps are free of charge, removing economic barriers for participation.
Each registered participant receives a T-shirt and nutritious snacks, underscoring the emphasis on overall wellbeing. The initiative is expected to benefit over 12,000 youngsters, with a carefully curated schedule running from 25 May to 6 June.
Fostering Future Champions
Visakhapatnam, often overshadowed by larger cities, is keen to position itself as a nurturing ground for sporting talent. By offering diverse sports options, GVMC aims to discover and hone the skills of potential future champions. The camps also serve to inspire a sense of community and pride among the youth.
