Kamal, a vocal advocate for sustainable development, claims that these funds are being siphoned off to departments with no direct link to environmental restoration.
According to Kamal, the diversion of funds blatantly violates the regulatory framework established by the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The NGT, a body known for its stringent environmental oversight, mandates that EC funds be used exclusively for projects that directly mitigate environmental damage. Over the past two years, approximately Rs 11.79 crore has been collected as EC from various project proponents.
