Health Minister Urges United Front Against Growing Drug Menace Among Youth
In a heartfelt appeal to the nation, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has called for a concerted effort to tackle the growing scourge of drug abuse among India’s youth. Speaking at an event on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Yadav highlighted the critical role of young people in realising the vision of a developed India by 2047.
“The level of drug abuse among our youth is becoming worrying,” he remarked, adding that the Ministry, which oversees the Narcotics Control Commission, is deeply concerned. Yadav underscored the inadequacy of merely arresting drug users without addressing the broader issue of drug supply and distribution networks.
His comments come at a time when reports suggest a worrying trend in narcotic use among younger demographics, posing a threat not only to individual health but also to the socio-economic fabric of the nation. “A healthy and strong youth population is vital for achieving Viksit Bharat by 2047,” he stated, urging for a multi-faceted approach involving education, awareness, and support systems.
The Role of Society and Government
The Chief Minister also shared his thoughts on the issue, asserting that the government cannot win this battle alone. He called for a societal shift towards promoting healthier choices and supporting those struggling with addiction. “Every effort to address addiction has the potential to change lives, strengthen families, and contribute to a better society,” he noted.
He encouraged community leaders, educators, and families to play pivotal roles in prevention efforts. By fostering environments that discourage substance abuse, the collective aim is to nurture a generation capable of steering India towards greater heights.
A Call to Action
On this international day dedicated to combating drug abuse, the resolve to protect youth and realise a ‘Nasha Mukt’ Jammu & Kashmir was reaffirmed. Minister Yadav's impassioned plea for collective action resonates deeply at a time when the future of the nation rests heavily on the shoulders of its youth.
As India grapples with this challenge, the path forward demands collaboration across sectors—government, civil society, and individuals alike—to build a healthier and more resilient society for the generations to come.
