India's Legal Education to Embrace Forensic Science Under New Laws
In a decisive move to modernise legal education in India, the Bar Council of India (BCI) has called upon law universities and Centres of Legal Education (CLEs) to bolster their focus on forensic science and case-study teaching. This directive comes in the wake of the introduction of new criminal laws that promise to transform the judicial landscape.
The Indian government has recently enacted the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act, 2023, Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. These laws mark a significant departure from the colonial-era statutes that have long governed India's criminal justice system.
Integrating Science with Law
The BCI's directive emphasises the importance of integrating forensic science into the legal curriculum.
