From a modest 387 institutions in 2014, the subcontinent now boasts a robust 844 medical colleges, according to the latest figures shared by the Minister of State for Health, Anupriya Patel. The surge in infrastructure accompanies a corresponding increase in medical seats. Undergraduate MBBS seats have soared from 51,348 to an impressive 1,39,489, while postgraduate opportunities have expanded from 31,185 to 86,360.
