Khel Gaon Welcomes New Era with 'Academies of Excellence'
In a bold stride towards sporting excellence, the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) has inaugurated nine 'Academies of Excellence' at Khel Gaon, Nagrota. This marks the commencement of a visionary blueprint aimed at nurturing the sporting talent of Jammu and Kashmir's youth under an elite coaching framework. The initiative is not merely a local endeavour but a strategic move to place the Union Territory on the national sports map.
The academies, part of a meticulously crafted first phase, are designed to offer specialised training across various sports disciplines. From football to taekwondo, each academy is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and a panel of elite trainers, including renowned figures such as Rahul Kumar Gupta and Mohd. Kamil from the All India Football Federation. These academies promise not just skill development but a holistic approach to athlete training.
Anuradha Gupta, the Director-General of DYSS, articulated the vision behind this initiative, emphasising the critical role of structured training in realising the potential of young athletes. "Our aim is to create an environment where talent meets opportunity. With the right guidance, our youth can achieve great heights in sports," she remarked.
The launch of these academies coincides with the International Yoga Day celebrations at Khel Gaon, where more than 1500 participants gathered, underscoring the community's enthusiasm for physical fitness and sports. The presence of such a large number of participants also highlights the cultural shift towards embracing sports as a vital component of personal development and health.
While the immediate focus is on training, the long-term objective is to produce athletes who can compete at national and international levels. The sports academies are set to become breeding grounds for future champions, offering a mix of traditional and modern training methods. The programme also aims to foster sportsmanship and discipline among the youth, preparing them for challenges on and off the field.
As the academies begin their work, there is a palpable sense of excitement and optimism. The initiative is a testament to the region's commitment to sport as a tool for empowerment and growth. For Jammu and Kashmir, these 'Academies of Excellence' are more than just training centres; they are the seeds of a sporting revolution.
