Punjab's Bold Education Overhaul: A ₹2,300 Crore Investment

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, speaking with a sense of achievement, declared that this investment has not only set a new benchmark for Punjab but has also seen the state eclipse Kerala as the leader in school education, according to the NITI Aayog Report for 2026-27.
The investment has been channelled into constructing over 9,000 new classrooms and laboratories, along with nearly 14,000 new toilets. The initiative, part of what is being dubbed the 'Sikhya Kranti', aims to provide a robust learning environment for students. Bains remarked, "Punjab's children are thriving, with access to facilities that were once considered a luxury in government schools."
Indeed, the transformation is palpable. Nearly every government school in the state now boasts boundary walls, separate and functional toilets for boys and girls, and essential amenities like drinking water facilities. In a digital age, it's noteworthy that 90% of these schools have WiFi connectivity, a testament to the state's commitment to modernising education.
