SKUAST-K Ushers in National Sports Day with Vigour
In a spirited celebration of National Sports Day, the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-K) turned the historic Shalimar grounds into a hub of athletic activity. Under the theme 'Ek Ghanta Maidan Mein', students and faculty gathered to honour the sporting legacy of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary figure of Indian hockey.
Participants took to the fields, engaging in a variety of sports ranging from football to cricket. The event, part of the broader 'Fit India' campaign, emphasised the importance of physical activity in daily life. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, while addressing the attendees, highlighted the role of sports in building a healthier society. "Sports are not merely games; they are the foundation of a robust community," he remarked. His words resonated with many as they played under the clear skies of Srinagar.
National Sports Day, observed across India on 29th August, commemorates the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, whose prowess on the hockey field remains unmatched. The SKUAST-K event was but one of many held nationwide, underscoring the collective push towards a fitter nation.
The choice of Shalimar as the venue infused the event with a unique cultural flair, blending the rich history of Kashmir with the vibrancy of youthful sportsmanship. As games unfolded, so did stories of camaraderie and competition, embodying the true spirit of sportsmanship.
For SKUAST-K, the event was more than just a tribute to a sports icon; it was a clarion call to embrace a lifestyle centred around health and wellness. As the day drew to a close, the sentiment was clear: in the field of life, every hour spent in sport is an hour well spent.
