Call for Third JEE-Advanced Attempt Gains Momentum
The chorus for increasing the number of attempts for the JEE-Advanced examination to three is growing louder. A petition, bearing the signatures of over 10,000 aspirants, has been submitted to the Ministry of Education and the Joint Admission Board (JAB). The students argue that an additional attempt would not only alleviate the immense pressure they face but also ensure a fair chance for those hailing from rural areas.
Currently, candidates can attempt the JEE-Advanced twice over two consecutive years. However, aspirants argue that the limited attempts disproportionately affect those who may have faced unforeseen challenges, such as health issues or lack of resources, particularly during the pandemic.
Notably, several IIT directors and senior political figures have expressed their support for this proposal, lending a significant boost to the students' campaign. Among them, DMK president M.K. Stalin has also weighed in, urging the Education Minister to consider the broader implications of the current restrictions, especially for students from less accessible regions.
Balancing Acts and Future Prospects
Preparing for JEE-Advanced requires a delicate balance between maintaining a steady focus on both JEE Main and Advanced levels. As one student, Aksh, noted, keeping in touch with the Advanced syllabus during JEE Main preparation is crucial. The proposal for a third attempt could potentially allow students to distribute their preparation more effectively, easing some of the academic stress.
The Ministry of Education and the JAB now face the task of considering these demands alongside logistical and policy challenges. While there is no official response yet, the growing support for the petition hints at a possible re-evaluation of the current system. For many, this could be a step towards a more inclusive and fair examination process.
