CERN Chief Advocates for More Mega-Science Initiatives

Standing amidst the energetic bustle of Mumbai, CERN Director-General Mark Thomson passionately called for an increase in mega-science projects worldwide. His words echoed through the halls during the India premiere of ‘The Peace Particle’, a documentary that delves into the groundbreaking work conducted at CERN.

Thomson, a stalwart in the field of physics, emphasised the transformative potential of large-scale scientific endeavours. He highlighted the 'Science Gateway', a new initiative aimed at expanding CERN's educational reach. 'This project is a beacon for young minds, fostering a new generation of scientific thinkers,' Thomson remarked.

However, such ambitions come with significant challenges. The proposed Future Circular Collider, with its staggering 91 km circumference, is set to triple CERN's current electricity needs. 'It's imperative we balance scientific advancement with sustainable practices,' Thomson noted.

The call for increased international collaboration was clear. As science becomes ever more specialised, pooling resources and expertise from across the globe is not just beneficial but necessary. 'In an era where the unknowns of dark matter and cosmic mysteries loom large, collaboration is our strongest tool,' Thomson concluded.
