Education Ministry Steps In Amidst CBSE Class 12 Results Controversy

In the latest twist in the ongoing saga of the CBSE Class 12 results, the Education Ministry has decided to exercise direct oversight over the evaluation process. This development comes amid rising dissatisfaction with the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system introduced for the 2026 examinations.

The OSM system, touted as a transparent and internationally recognised method, has faced criticism following the digital evaluation of a staggering 98.66 million answer books. Concerns were further compounded when approximately 68,000 answer scripts required rescanning due to poor initial scans, sparking fears about the reliability of the process.

Ministry's Intervention

School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar has assured all stakeholders that the ministry is not only monitoring the situation but has also put in place a comprehensive review mechanism to address any genuine grievances. "We are committed to ensuring fairness and transparency," Kumar stated emphatically, adding that the ministry's involvement underlines its dedication to maintaining educational integrity.

The CBSE, in its defence, has maintained that the new system ensures a level of accuracy unmatched by traditional methods. Reevaluation opportunities and access to answer book copies are being provided to students who are dissatisfied with their scores, marking a significant shift towards transparency.

International Standards and Local Concerns

While the OSM system is used globally, its adaptation in India has not been without hurdles. The technical glitches and subsequent rescanning episodes have done little to bolster confidence among students and parents alike. Critics argue that the system needs further refinement before it can be deemed foolproof.

Nevertheless, the ministry's intervention is a clear signal of its intent to uphold educational standards and reassure the public of its commitment to a fair evaluation process. As the dust settles, the focus will undoubtedly remain on how effectively these measures address the current concerns.
