Google's Air-Cooled Data Centre in Visakhapatnam: A Technological Leap

In a stride towards innovation and sustainability, Google has revealed plans to utilise air-cooling technology for its new data centre in Visakhapatnam. This move, as confirmed by MP M. Sribharat, seeks to address potential water scarcity issues and pave the way for substantial economic growth in the region.

The state-of-the-art facility, expected to be operational by 2026, marks a significant investment of approximately $15 billion over the course of five years. The initiative is anticipated to generate between 5,000 to 6,000 direct employment opportunities and upwards of 20,000 indirect jobs across Andhra Pradesh.

Economic Boost and Technological Advancement

Beyond its immediate employment impact, the data centre is set to attract significant investments in related sectors such as power systems, cooling technologies, and server manufacturing. This, in turn, is expected to establish Visakhapatnam as a burgeoning hub for artificial intelligence and data-driven industries.

MP Sribharat has assured residents that the data centre's cooling methods will not compromise the city’s water supply. The choice of air-cooling is a strategic one, aiming to circumvent any adverse effects on the local water resources while also pioneering a greener, more efficient cooling method.

A Milestone for Swarandhra Pradesh

The Union Minister described the initiative as a defining milestone in Swarandhra Pradesh's journey towards progress and self-reliance. By creating a robust infrastructure, the project is poised to transform not just Visakhapatnam but the entire state into a conducive environment for technological and economic development.

As the project unfolds, the anticipation is that it will not only bolster Andhra Pradesh's reputation as a technology-forward state but also inspire other regions to adopt sustainable and innovative approaches to industrial development.
