Government Bolsters Sports with Revamped Khelo India Initiative
In a bid to uplift India's sporting landscape, the Cabinet has given the green light to a revamped Khelo India Scheme alongside enhanced assistance to National Sports Federations (ANSFs). This decision marks a crucial step in the country's ongoing efforts to nurture sporting talent and infrastructure.
Aiming for Excellence
The revised Khelo India initiative comprises twelve components, each designed to align with the National Sports Policy 2001's objectives. Central to the scheme is the accreditation of 236 sports academies nationwide, a move that promises to streamline training and talent identification processes.
Ministerial sources indicate a significant emphasis on women athletes, who will benefit from tailored training sessions, both residential and non-residential. This focus on inclusivity reflects a broader strategy to level the playing field, ensuring that athletes across the gender spectrum receive equal opportunities to excel.
Building a Stronger Sporting Nation
The Khelo India Scheme has been instrumental in transforming India's sports scenario, with substantial investments directed towards infrastructure and talent development. The approval of the revamped scheme signifies a reinforced commitment to nurturing young athletes, providing them with the environment and resources necessary to compete at international levels.
Alongside the Khelo India efforts, enhanced assistance to ANSFs is poised to bolster the support system for national athletes. The government’s funding has been pivotal in allowing athletes to participate in global competitions, as evidenced by the recent championship successes.
With a clear roadmap and structured programmes, India aims to not only enhance its medal tally in future events but also cultivate a robust sporting culture that values and supports its athletes.
