IGCAR's Technology Transfer: A New Era for Deep-Tech Startups
The Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) has embarked on a transformative journey by signing technology transfer deals aimed at commercialising its nuclear research. In a bid to bolster deep-tech startups, IGCAR has granted technology transfer licences to innovative ventures, including Raana Semiconductors Pvt. Ltd., for two of its pioneering technologies.
The first licence pertains to LiNbO3 crystal growth technology, a critical component of the National Quantum Mission. This technology is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing quantum computing capabilities, an area where India is keen to make significant strides.
Additionally, the deep penetrating flux formulation for TIG welding, another patented innovation by IGCAR, has been transferred. This technology promises to enhance welding processes, crucial for various industrial applications.
Empowering Startups
The move to collaborate with startups is part of a broader strategy to translate research into market-ready products. By engaging with the private sector, IGCAR aims to ensure that its innovations do not remain confined to laboratories but find practical applications in industries.
Four Atal Incubation Centres, including those in Mumbai, Kalpakkam, Indore, and Gandhinagar, are now actively engaged in transforming Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) technologies into commercially viable solutions. This is a strategic shift towards harnessing the full potential of Indian scientific research.
