India's Media Sector Urged to Embrace AI for Global Success
In a spirited call to action, India's Information and Broadcasting Secretary, Chanchal Kumar, has urged the country's media and entertainment sector to harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to elevate its global standing. At a recent assembly with senior industry figures, Kumar highlighted the transformative potential of AI in driving productivity and spurring job creation, urging stakeholders to embrace technological advancements as a means of securing international competitiveness.
The dialogue, a part of the Global Leaders Dialogue series, served as a platform for government and industry leaders to deliberate on pressing policy reforms. Chief among these was the resumption of BARC television ratings, a critical tool for gauging audience engagement, alongside robust anti-piracy measures to safeguard intellectual property.
Kumar's address underscored the need for a coordinated effort to align policy, infrastructure, and commercial ambitions. 'AI is not merely a tool but a catalyst for change,' he remarked, noting that its integration could revolutionise how content is produced and consumed. The secretary also pointed to the burgeoning Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) sector as a potential hotbed for innovation and growth.
While the promise of technology looms large, the imperative for strategic investment and collaboration remains crucial. Kumar called upon industry leaders to commit to long-term goals, fostering an environment where AI not only enhances efficiency but also nurtures creativity and diversity within the sector.
As India's media and entertainment landscape continues to evolve, the focus on AI and other digital technologies appears set to reshape the industry. By prioritising innovation and collaboration, stakeholders hope to ensure that the sector not only competes but thrives on the global stage.
