Odisha Bolsters Free Education with Rs 14.34 Crore Boost

In a decisive step towards educational inclusivity, the Odisha government has released a second instalment of Rs 14.34 crore under its ambitious KG to PG Free Education scheme. This initiative, formally known as Gyanodaya-Shiksha Ru Samruddhi, is set to benefit over 32 lakh students by waiving admission fees from kindergarten through to post-graduation.

The latest financial boost highlights the state's resolve to ensure that education remains accessible to all, irrespective of economic barriers. By easing the financial burden on families, the Odisha government is fostering an environment where education is viewed not as a privilege, but as a fundamental right.

According to official reports, this recent disbursement accounts for 15 per cent of the approved financial assistance for the academic session 2026-27. It brings the total funds allocated under the scheme to Rs 23.90 crore, underscoring a robust commitment to the educational welfare of its citizens.

The scheme is not merely an exercise in financial transactions. It is a strategic move aimed at nurturing human capital in a state where educational opportunities were once limited by economic constraints. By investing in education, Odisha envisions a future where its youth are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in a competitive world.

While the initiative has been lauded by many, it also poses challenges. The effective utilisation of funds by educational institutions will be crucial in achieving the desired impact. The government, therefore, faces the dual task of monitoring fund usage and ensuring that educational standards are upheld.

As Odisha continues to roll out this programme, the hope is that it will serve as a model for other states, demonstrating that with the right policies and financial backing, the dream of universal education can indeed become a reality.
