President Murmu Champions Education for Girls and Tribal Students
In a spirited address to university representatives, President Droupadi Murmu has called for a renewed focus on the education of girls and tribal students, a move she deems essential for India's future. Her remarks, delivered with characteristic clarity, underscored the transformative power of education in both personal empowerment and national progress.
President Murmu commended the strides made by women in higher education, noting with pride that out of 90 recent PhD graduates, 50 were women. Furthermore, 21 out of 34 gold medalists were female, signalling a significant shift in educational dynamics. This success, she argued, should be a catalyst for further initiatives aimed at increasing female participation in academia.
The President also highlighted the importance of including tribal communities in the educational fold. With 161 tribal students currently enrolled at the university she addressed, Murmu emphasised that their inclusion is vital not only for their own advancement but also for fostering a more inclusive society.
Her call comes at a time when India's educational institutions are increasingly being recognised as pivotal players in a global knowledge economy. By encouraging the enrolment of students from economically weaker sections and those with disabilities, Murmu believes the nation can harness a diverse pool of talent.
