President Murmu Eyes Untapped Potential in India-North Macedonia Ties

In a momentous stride towards strengthening economic ties, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the India-North Macedonia Business Forum in Skopje, marking the first visit by an Indian President to the Balkan nation. Her speech was a clarion call to seize the untapped potential between the two countries, describing the bilateral economic relationship as "a frontier waiting to be fully conquered."

Despite steady growth in trade, the current economic engagement, according to President Murmu, merely scratches the surface of what is possible. She emphasised the need for both nations to diversify their trade portfolios, urging businesses to explore sectors beyond the traditional, such as technology, pharmaceuticals, and tourism.

Building Bridges of Commerce

Murmu's address comes at a pivotal time, as India seeks to broaden its economic footprint in Europe. With North Macedonia serving as a strategic entry point into the Balkans, the President highlighted the mutual benefits of a robust economic partnership. "The synergy between our nations can lead to remarkable innovations and shared prosperity," she noted.

Highlighting the entrepreneurial spirit of both countries, Murmu invited North Macedonian businesses to invest in India's burgeoning markets. "India offers a vast landscape of opportunities with its skilled workforce and favourable business environment," she added, inviting collaboration in renewable energy and digital technology.

A Historic Visit

President Murmu's visit is not just symbolic but also strategic. Following her address at the Business Forum, she is set to engage in bilateral discussions with North Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova. These talks aim to lay the groundwork for future collaborations and strengthen ties in sectors like education, culture, and defence.

This visit forms part of a broader European tour, which includes stops in Moldova and Romania, reflecting India's renewed focus on deepening ties with the region. As President Murmu continues her journey, the eyes of both nations remain fixed on the potential of an invigorated relationship, one that promises economic growth and cultural exchange.
