Sonam Wangchuk: Innovator of Ice Stupas and Education Reformer
High in the rugged terrain of Ladakh, where the air is thin and the temperatures sub-zero, Sonam Wangchuk is forging a path that blends innovation with tradition. Known for his pioneering work with ice stupas—artificial glaciers designed to mitigate water shortages—Wangchuk is equally celebrated for his radical education reforms. Wangchuk's ice stupas, conceived in 2013, are a testament to his ingenuity. This act of protest was a call for legal rights to protect Ladakh's fragile environment and resources.
