India's Media Industry Set for $36.7 Billion Boom by 2030
India's entertainment and media industry appears to be on the cusp of a significant transformation. According to a recent report by PwC, the sector is expected to balloon to $36.7 billion by the year 2030, marking a remarkable growth trajectory from $25.7 billion in 2025. This projection, with a compound annual growth rate of 7.4%, sets India apart on the global stage, where the average growth rate lags at 4%.
Rajesh Sethi of PwC India highlighted a pivotal shift in the industry’s focus. "India has already demonstrated its ability to build audience scale. The next phase is about converting that engagement into sustainable value," he stated. This evolution is not merely about numbers but about deriving long-term value from the digital engagement India has nurtured over recent years.
Central to this growth is the rise of digital technologies, particularly OTT platforms. These have seen an unprecedented surge in popularity, offering a diverse array of content that appeals to India's vast and varied demographic. The Ministry’s ambitious target of a $70 billion industry by 2030 underscores this potential.
However, challenges remain. The industry must navigate regulatory landscapes and ensure content remains both culturally relevant and commercially viable. Yet, with India's young population and increasing internet penetration, the potential for growth seems boundless.
As the world watches, India's media and entertainment sector is set not just to grow but to redefine itself, offering a model that could well serve as a blueprint for other emerging markets.
