Mysuru Emerges as a Magnet for Tech Talent in India
In a development that underscores Mysuru's rising stature as a technology hub, a report by the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) reveals that 44,600 professionals across India are keen to relocate to the city. This influx is a testament to the burgeoning confidence in Mysuru's expanding technology ecosystem.
Once known primarily for its cultural heritage, Mysuru is now making headlines for its digital prowess. The city's digital economy, currently valued at $1.3 billion, is supported by more than 650 startups, significant IT exports worth over ₹5,700 crore, and a growing electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
According to KDEM CEO Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, Mysuru's new status as an 'IT City' and 'AI City' is not merely honorary but reflects the city's genuine potential in the technology sector. The Karnataka government is actively working to enhance this potential, with plans for an IT City underway. The identification of land and industry collaboration are critical steps in realising this vision.
The 'Beyond Bengaluru' strategy aims to decentralise the state's tech industry, fostering regional growth and reducing the pressure on Bengaluru. This approach not only promises to transform Mysuru but also sets a precedent for other cities in India aspiring to become tech hubs.
Samir Venugopal, Vice President at KDEM, noted that the talent pool in the state has substantially increased, with global capability centres (GCC) numbers swelling from 3.5 lakh to an anticipated 6.5 lakh by 2026. While Bengaluru continues to lead in office space absorption, Mysuru's rise signals a shift in the tech narrative of Karnataka.
The report's findings highlight a promising trend: as more professionals consider Mysuru for its opportunities and lifestyle, the city is poised to become a formidable competitor in the tech industry, not just within the state but nationally.
